Morphological and Genetic Recovery of Coral Polyps After Bail-Out

چکیده

Contemporary advances in microfluidic and molecular techniques have enabled coral studies to shift from reef colony scales polyp- molecular-level investigations. Polyp bail-out provides an alternative approach acquire solitary polyps for at finer scales. Although induction of polyp has been reported several studies, health after not investigated. In this study, we monitored morphological genetic changes Pocillopora acuta induced by hyperosmosis. isosmotic conditions, over 80% bailed-out survived, which half regenerated normal morphology within 5 days, including a polarized body, extended tentacles, distinguishable oral disk. contrast, the remaining degenerated into tissue ball-like structures that resemble multicellular aggregates earlier studies. morphologically recovered polyps, transcriptomic analysis showed ∼87% genes altered during stress status, suggesting resumption metabolism, cell division, immunity, while only ∼71% recovered. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction data further demonstrated recovery energy production, proliferation, immune response was achieved 3 days bail-out, but fully accomplished even days. Our findings indicate generated hyperosmosis-induced can recover rapidly physiological under laboratory could be used as new models research.

Virilizing adrenal cancer and bail-out nephrectomy.

We report a rare case of virilizing adrenal cancer with tumorous invasion of the left renal vein in which a retroperitoneal adrenalectomy with bail-out nephrectomy was performed. A tumor thrombus infiltrated the wall of the left adrenal vein and extended into the left renal vein. Initially, a kidney sparing procedure with partial tangential excision of the involved renal vein wall was performed...

Resistance vs recovery: morphological strategies of coral reef sponges

1. An inverse association between ability to regenerate and structural complexity (i.e. internal differentiation and integration), illustrated by comparisons among animal phyla, suggests a dichotomy between suites of morphological traits that promote recovery from damage vs traits that promote resistance to damage. 2. The phylum Porifera is particularly suited for exploration of relationships a...

Delayed rupture of right coronary artery after directional atherectomy for bail-out.

The excised mitral valve prosthesis revealed extensively thickened and cal...

Quantification of coral heat shock proteins from individual coral polyps

The induction and regulation of heat shock proteins (hsps) is a significant defense mechanism that can preserve metabolic function and foster recovery from short-term stress events. Present coral sampling methodologies that involve hsp analysis often require the harvesting of large samples of live coral colonies that may already be stressed or in poor health. In the present study, 3 novel proto...
